Chapter 1

Pick a lane you can make 100 videos in

The niche is not a topic. It is a bit you can repeat without running dry.

Most people start with a topic. Comedy. Fitness. Food. A topic is too big to be remembered for. Nobody follows "comedy." They follow the guy who plays every annoying customer from his old job.

That is a lane. It is where we start with creators we work with, and it is the step most new pages skip.

A lane has three parts

  • Who you are on camera. A role people can name in a few words. The new teacher. The tired dad. The ref who hates his job.
  • What you do every time. The repeatable move. Rate it, rank it, act it out, try it for a week.
  • Where it happens. The world the videos live in. A break room, a garage gym, a gas station, the cheap seats.

Put them together: I'm a who at .

TopicLane
ComedyA retail worker acting out every customer who asks for the manager
FitnessA dad getting in shape in his garage with what he already owns
FoodRating every gas station meal in one state
SportsA fan who only follows the worst team in the league

The lane is narrower. That is the point. Narrow is what makes someone remember you after one video.

  5. 5The stageIf you do stand-up, your sets are the content.
