Questions people ask
Who is Rick Shiels?
Rick Shiels is a golf professional and YouTuber from Bolton, England. He studied golf at Myerscough College, worked as a club pro at Mere Golf and Country Club in Cheshire and then Trafford Golf Centre, and started his channel to bring in coaching customers, per Golf Monthly. In June 2019 it became the biggest golf channel on YouTube. As of October 2026, his YouTube About page shows about 3.09 million subscribers, 2,690 videos and more than 1.04 billion views.
Why is Rick Shiels not on YGT (Your Golf Tour)?
He has not said why in anything we could source, and the league has not commented on him either. What is public: Grant Horvat and the Bryan Bros announced Your Golf Tour on March 25, 2026 as a four-team, 16-player league ending in a million-dollar finale at Wynn Golf Club, and Horvat said the aim was a structure for top players to perform under real pressure, per Golf Digest. The full roster, published by Golf Digest on May 4, 2026, does not include Shiels. Its captains are Horvat, Wesley Bryan, George Bryan and Brad Dalke. Peter Finch, who studied at Myerscough College alongside Shiels per Golf Monthly, is on it.
Is Rick Shiels still with LIV Golf? What happened?
As of October 2026, neither Shiels nor LIV has said publicly whether his ambassador deal is still running. He signed on January 24, 2025 as an ambassador and content creator, with plans to film Break 75 and 10 Shot Challenge videos with LIV players at every event of the 2025 season, per Golf Monthly. On September 8, 2026, LIV filed for Chapter 11 in the New Jersey bankruptcy court, per Golf.com, and the filing lists Rick Shiels Media as owed $1.4 million under a brand partnership agreement, per Dexerto. Business Insider reported that his company did not respond to a request for comment. His October 2026 uploads are club tests, coaching and challenge videos.
Is Rick Shiels a pro golfer? Is he a PGA professional?
Yes, a PGA-qualified club and teaching professional rather than a touring pro. He turned professional after his golf studies diploma and worked at Mere and Trafford Golf Centre, per Golf Monthly, and the PGA’s own site called him a Manchester PGA pro in May 2016, when he finished joint second at a regional qualifier for the Titleist and FootJoy PGA Professional Championship final at Delamere Forest on his first try, per pga.info. He has also been a regular on Golf Monthly’s Top 50 coaches list. We found no record of him holding a tour card and could not source a published handicap.
What is the Rick Shiels controversy?
Mostly his LIV Golf signing. LIV was funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, and when he announced the deal in January 2025 many viewers objected; Business Insider reported in September 2026 that he lost thousands of subscribers. His response, to Today’s Golfer in early 2025: he expected pushback, the negative comments still hurt, and after 13 years on YouTube he joined because fresh content was getting harder to make and he believed the LIV videos would be his best. Earlier, he ended his Nike deal on January 1, 2021, saying a new paid to post arrangement did not fit how he wanted to make content, per GolfMagic.
Who sponsors Rick Shiels? Is he sponsored by Takomo?
In July 2022 he signed with Lyle & Scott as his exclusive apparel and headwear provider, per Golf Monthly, and he has made series with Nike, Garmin and Mastercard in the past. We found no announced Takomo sponsorship in golf press. His videos often test clubs from many brands, so a brand showing up in a video is not the same as a deal.
How old is Rick Shiels? What is his real name?
He is 40, born July 3, 1986, per Famous Birthdays. He works under the name Rick Shiels, and no other name has been published by him or by major press.
Where is Rick Shiels from?
Bolton, England, per Golf Monthly, and he took up golf at 11 at Hart Common in Bolton, per Famous Birthdays. In 2016 the PGA described him as Lytham-based through his Quest Golf Studio, and Golf Monthly says he films most videos at Marriott Worsley Park.
Is Rick Shiels married?
Yes. Golf Monthly reports he married his wife on March 30, 2013.
What about Rick Shiels’s health or personal life?
Not something we cover.
Where can I watch Rick Shiels?
His main channel is YouTube @RickShielsPGA, which posts almost daily. He also runs the Rick Shiels Golf Show podcast channel and H.I.T. Golf Reviews, and posts short clips on TikTok @rickshielspga and Instagram @rickshielspga. His 2025 LIV Golf videos, starting with a challenge against Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka per National Club Golfer, are on the main channel.
What is Rick Shiels worth? How much does he make? Is he a millionaire?
He does not publish a number and neither do we. The one sourced dollar figure is the $1.4 million LIV’s September 2026 bankruptcy filing lists as owed to Rick Shiels Media, per Golf.com. He declined to discuss his LIV terms when he signed, and said he has upwards of 15 staff, per Today’s Golfer.
Who represents Rick Shiels?
His YouTube About page lists a business email for signed-in viewers, and rickshiels.com has a contact page and a podcast inbox. We found no named agency or management in trade press. Ames Create does not represent him; we cover him because people want to know where he stands with LIV Golf and Your Golf Tour, and the record on both is spread across a dozen places. If that changes, this entry will say so.
Our read
Ames Create does not work with Rick Shiels. This is our view, from a team that works on creator brands for a living.
The format. A teaching pro’s instincts on camera: series with a clear target (Break 75, the 10 Shot Challenge against tour players), club tests that answer a buying question, and short coaching fixes. The viewer always knows what is at stake in the first few seconds, and he usually explains the shot while he plays it.
Why it travels. Volume and a question in every title. With 2,690 videos and near daily uploads, there is always a fresh test or challenge, and guests like Rory McIlroy, Jason Day and Tommy Fleetwood carry clips into other audiences. The LIV run added access to tour players and, for some viewers, a reason to leave.
Brand fit. Equipment, apparel, golf travel and training aids are natural, and his audience trusts the review format. He has walked away from a paid to post deal before, so brands should expect his say on how a product appears. The LIV association still splits some viewers and, as of October 2026, the money listed as owed in the bankruptcy filing is unresolved, so expect that topic in the comments.
