Mintzy is Ben Mintz, a Barstool Sports personality who joined the company in 2020 from sports radio in Baton Rouge and is also a former tournament poker player. In May 2023 Barstool, then owned by Penn Entertainment, fired him after he used a racial slur while singing along to rap lyrics on a livestream, a decision Dave Portnoy said he opposed (Awful Announcing). Portnoy rehired him in August 2023, the day after buying Barstool back (Barrett Media). As of October 2026 he is still listed as Barstool talent in the Chicago office and turns up most weeks on The Yak and in Barstool After Dark stunts, usually as the person the joke is about. He posts on X as @BarstoolMintzy.

Questions people ask
Who is Mintzy?
Mintzy is Ben Mintz, a Barstool Sports personality based in the company’s Chicago office. His Barstool bio calls him a former professional poker player and sports radio host who graduated from Ole Miss, and PokerNews reported that Dave Portnoy hired him away from ESPN radio in Baton Rouge in 2020. He hosted the morning show Wake Up Mintzy, blogs college football and the Saints, and is a regular target of office stunts on The Yak and Barstool After Dark.
What happened to Mintzy? Is he still at Barstool?
Yes. As of October 13, 2026 he is still at Barstool. His author page is active and lists him in the Chicago office, he was on The Yak in July, and White Sox Dave wrote about him on October 6, 2026. His own blog has been quieter: his most recent post we found is from April 7, 2026. Most searches for what happened to him are about 2023, when he was fired, rehired and had his show suspended, all covered below.
Why was Mintzy fired from Barstool?
In May 2023 he used a racial slur while singing along to rap lyrics during a Barstool livestream, and Barstool fired him on May 3. Barstool was then fully owned by Penn Entertainment, and Dave Portnoy said Penn made the call over his and CEO Erika Nardini’s objections, out of concern about gambling regulators (PokerNews, Awful Announcing). Mintz apologized and later told Barrett Media it was “a very stupid, but honest mistake” with no malicious intent. In a video he said Portnoy, Big Cat and Nardini had fought for him and should not be blamed (Barrett Media).
How did Mintzy get his job back at Barstool?
After the firing he took a summer gig with PokerGO, per Awful Announcing, and Portnoy hired him at his watch company, Brick (Distractify). On August 8, 2023, Portnoy announced he had bought Barstool back from Penn, and one of his first moves was to bring Mintz back to Barstool (Barrett Media).
What happened to Wake Up Mintzy?
The show debuted on April 10, 2023 on the Barstool Sportsbook YouTube channel, with guests from around the company such as PFT Commenter and Tommy Smokes, who came on in April 2023 after having Mintz fake-arrested on his own show. It ran about two and a half weeks before he was fired. After his return he announced it would come back three mornings a week from the new Chicago office, where he moved in November 2023. On December 14, 2023 Portnoy suspended it after Mintz spoiled the final contestants of Surviving Barstool on air, saying it would stay off until it had a broadcast delay (Barrett Media). Mintz called it “an egregious, idiotic mistake.” In January 2024 he wrote that the show was not cancelled and would run two weeks a month on Rumble. The latest episode promoted on Barstool’s site that we found is from April 2024.
What is Mintzy’s real name?
Ben Mintz. Barstool publishes it on his author page, and it has been printed by Awful Announcing, Barrett Media and PokerNews. Mintzy is the nickname built from it.
What does Mintzy do at Barstool now?
Mostly he is the subject. Colleague Ohio’s Tate built Barstool After Dark streams around him, including a blindfolded corn maze in September 2025, and in January 2026 Tate documented his trip to the Fiesta Bowl to watch Ole Miss, which Barstool cut into a recap called The Boondoggle Saints. He was on a team in Barstool’s State Farm sponsored basketball tournament in spring 2026, where by his own account he offered his captain part of his winnings not to cut him. He also blogs Ole Miss, Tulane and Saints football.
Is Mintzy a professional poker player?
He was. His Barstool bio calls him a former professional poker player, and PokerNews reported in May 2023 that he had more than $620,000 in live tournament cashes, finished 327th in the 2018 World Series of Poker Main Event and co-hosted the Cracking Aces poker podcast. He still blogs about the World Series of Poker for Barstool.
How old is Mintzy?
He has not published a birth date, so we do not list an age.
What about Mintzy’s family or personal life?
Not something we cover.
Where can I watch Mintzy?
On Barstool’s own shows, mainly The Yak and Barstool After Dark, and on his Barstool author page, which collects his blogs and videos. He posts on X as @BarstoolMintzy. The Wake Up Mintzy episodes from 2023 and 2024 aired on Barstool’s YouTube and Rumble channels.
What is Mintzy’s net worth?
He does not publish a number and neither do we.
Who represents Mintzy?
He works for Barstool Sports, and we found no outside agency or manager listed for him. Ames Create does not represent him; we cover him because people keep searching for what happened to him at Barstool, and the answer is on the record. If that changes, this entry will say so.
Our read
Ames Create does not work with Mintzy. This is our view, from a team that works on creator brands for a living.
The format. He plays the straight man in situations other people design. A former poker pro who takes every bit seriously, from a corn maze to a basketball draft, gives colleagues a reliable lead, and Barstool’s bloggers write up each episode the same day, so one moment becomes a running story.
Why it travels. The clips need no context: a man [running on the office treadmill](https://www.barstoolsports.com/blog/3572123/only-in-america-benjamin-mintz-strikes-again-and-was-grunting-loudly-on-the-treadmill-while-the-whole-office-was-livestreaming) during a livestream, or [stretched across airplane seats](https://www.barstoolsports.com/blog/3563016/mintzy-laying-across-2.5-airplane-seats-next-to-a-sandwiched-in-coworker-with-his-shoes-off-legs-in-the-aisle-and-seat-reclined-is-his-latest-unintentional-comedic-masterpiece), reads in one frame. The Fiesta Bowl trip in January 2026 showed the bigger version: a week of posts from a colleague following him, which Barstool turned into a recap video and an [episode of VIVA TV](https://www.barstoolsports.com/video/3560558/barstool-bloggers-trip-takes-the-internet-by-storm-or-viva-tv).
Brand fit. Brands already inside Barstool’s world fit, and some have sponsored his segments: State Farm presented the 2026 basketball tournament, and Wake Up Mintzy carried Dude Wipes and Stella Blue Coffee. College football, New Orleans, poker and jam bands are his own lanes. The 2023 firing is part of his record, and Penn’s stated worry was gambling regulators, so regulated betting and gaming brands are the hardest fit. Live work also comes with the spoiler history Portnoy himself cited.
