What you get back

Example

One video, against your normal

“Sunday meal prep with me”

0.2xyour normal of 18.4K

This one did 0.2x your normal. It is about your routine, while your hits are verdicts on cheap food people already have an opinion about, and it runs more than twice as long as they do.

Why did my video flop?

First check whether it flopped for you. Divide its views by your normal, the median views of your last 12 posts. Under 0.5x is a miss for your page. Then put it next to the posts that did 2x or more: the difference is usually in the format, the opening words or the length. The analyzer above does both from the link.

Why a video beat or missed, from your own numbers

One video, measured against what your page usually does. This is what comes back when you paste a link.

  • 01

How it did against your normal

Its views as a multiple of your median, and where it ranks among your recent posts.

  • 02

    Why it beat or missed

Two or three differences between this video and your own hits, each one pointing at real posts.

  • 03

Length and engagement, side by side

This video’s length next to your hits’, and its likes and comments per 100 views next to your usual.

  • 04

Three ways it could have opened

The same topic, each a different kind of opening, with how that kind ran across the 1,239 top videos in our study.

How it works

  1. 1

    Paste the link

Open the video, tap Share, copy the link. TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube and Shorts.

  2. 2

We read it and your recent posts

The video’s public numbers, and your last posts to work out your normal.

  3. 3

    You get the read

Where it landed, why, and what to try on the next one.

Built by our team

What makes it worth using

  • Measured against you

A flop is a video that missed your own normal, not someone else’s. That is why it works at any size.

  • It says when it was not a flop

A video near your median is an ordinary result, and the read says so plainly.

  • Free, with no account

No sign-up, no email wall and no login to your socials.

  • Honest about what it can see

Captions, titles and public numbers. It has not watched your video, and it says so in the result.

How to analyze a TikTok, Reel or Short by hand

It is the same method the analyzer uses.

  1. Wait 48 hours. Views keep climbing for the first day or two, so a video judged at hour three has not finished yet.

  2. Find your normal. Line up the views on your last 12 posts, skip pinned ones, and take the one in the middle. That median is what a usual post does for you.

  3. Divide. This video’s views over your normal. 2x or more beat it clearly. 0.5x or less missed it clearly. Anything between is an ordinary result, not a flop.

  4. Put it next to your hits. Compare its opening words, its topic, its format and its length with the posts that did 2x or more. The difference is usually there.

Why videos miss, in the numbers you can see

What the comparison with your own hits usually turns up.

  • It is a different format from your hits. A routine video on a page whose hits are rankings, or a talking video on a page whose hits are stunts, is a different promise to the same audience.
  • The opening line labels the video instead of promising something. “Sunday meal prep” names an activity. “Ranking my meal preps by how sad Thursday is” gives a reason to stay.
  • It runs longer than your hits. When your hits are short and this one is twice their length, the length is worth testing first.
  • It is still young. Under 48 hours, the comparison is early. Run it again in a day or two.
  • It landed on your normal. An ordinary result is not a flop. Most posts land near the middle, which is what a median means.

To test an opening before you post, the Hook Checker reads your first line against our study of top videos.

What the analyzer cannot see

It answers a narrower question than your own analytics, and it is worth being plain about what it leaves out.

  • Watch time and retention. How long people watched lives in your own analytics, behind your login. We never ask for it.
  • Shares, saves and where views came from. Those are in your analytics too. The analyzer reads views, likes and comments where the platform shows them.
  • Account status. It cannot tell you about restrictions, strikes or a shadowban. It only sees what a visitor sees.
  • The video itself. It has not watched it. It reads the words you published with it and the numbers it earned.

Questions people ask

Why did my TikTok flop?

Compare it with your own normal first: the median views of your last 12 posts. If it did half your normal or less, it missed for your account, and the reason is usually visible next to your hits: a different format, an opening that labels instead of promising, or a much longer runtime. Paste the link at the top of this page and the analyzer does that comparison for you.

Why did my TikTok get 0 views?

First check that the video is public and finished uploading, then give it time. The analyzer reads the public view count, so a video showing 0 there has nothing to compare yet. Once it has views, paste the link and it is measured against your normal.

Why is my reel not getting views?

Start by checking whether it is low for you. Find the median views of your recent Reels, and divide. If this one is under 0.5x, compare it with your Reels that did 2x or more: how they open, what they are about, how long they run. The analyzer reads Reels by link and does it from your public numbers.

Why are my YouTube Shorts not getting views anymore?

Look at your last dozen Shorts against each other, not against an old breakout. If your recent median has dropped, compare what your best recent Shorts share with what the rest do. Paste a Short’s link and the analyzer reads it against your channel’s recent Shorts.

Why are my videos flopping all of a sudden?

Most of the time, a breakout raised the bar in your head while your normal stayed where it was. Measure against your median, which one viral post barely moves. If your median itself has fallen across many posts, compare your recent hits with your recent misses to see what changed.

What counts as my normal?

The median views of your last 12 posts, leaving out pinned posts and anything under 48 hours old. We use the median, not the average, because one viral post drags an average up.

What does 3x my normal mean?

The video got three times the views of a usual post on your page. It is measured against you, so 3x means the same thing at 500 views a post or 500,000.

Does video length matter?

It can, and the only length that matters is the one your own audience rewards. The analyzer shows this video’s length next to the median length of your hits, so you can see whether it ran long for your page.

Does my caption or title change views?

The words people see first set the promise of the video. The analyzer compares how this video’s caption or title opens with how your hits open. It cannot see what you say on screen, so the on-screen hook is yours to weigh.

What kind of opening did my video use?

The analyzer reads the first words of your caption or title and names the kind of opening, from the nine kinds our team tracks: a curiosity gap, a relatable callout, high stakes and so on. Then it shows how that kind ran across 1,239 top videos from 18 creators in our hook study. The figures are pooled, and no creator or video from the study is named.

Can I analyze someone else’s video?

It reads public videos, so it will run on any public link. It is built for your own work, though: the read and the rewrites are written for the person who made the video.

Can it tell if a video will go viral?

No. It reads results after you post. It shows what already worked for your page and what this video did differently, and gives you three things to try.

Do I need to log in or connect my account?

No. It reads what is already public. There is nothing to connect and we never ask for a password. It does not work on private accounts.

Which links does it take?

A TikTok video link, an Instagram Reel link, or a YouTube video or Shorts link. Open the video, tap Share, then Copy link. Photos and carousels have no view count, so it does not read them.

Is the Video Analyzer free?

Yes, with no account. Each person gets a few reads a day, which keeps it free for everyone. To see what all your hits have in common, the Page Audit reads your whole page.
