Who is More Plates More Dates?
More Plates More Dates is a self-improvement YouTube channel run by a creator who goes by Derek; its About page describes it as “All Things Self-Improvement Related.” Famous Birthdays calls him a fitness instructor and entrepreneur known for bodybuilding, dating and lifestyle content. His best-known format is commentary on whether public figures are natural or enhanced (“natty or not”), built on his reading of bodybuilding pharmacology, alongside long videos on hair loss, TRT, sleep and supplements. Joe Rogan’s show describes him as a fitness educator and entrepreneur behind the channel, a podcast and a companion website.
What happened to More Plates More Dates? Why did Derek stop posting? Did he quit YouTube?
As of October 2026, Derek has not announced that he quit YouTube, but More Plates More Dates posts far less than it used to. Per the channel’s upload feed, the newest video is Discussing Microneedling and Minoxidil For Hair Loss With Dr. Rhonda Patrick, posted March 21, 2026, about seven months before this entry. Before that, the channel went quiet from September 9, 2025 to January 20, 2026, then posted a run of videos through February and March. He has not said why he posts less, and we found no report of a reason in an accepted outlet. What is public: in December 2025 he appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience #2421, and his supplement brand, Gorilla Mind, kept expanding in 2026 (see below).
What does More Plates More Dates mean?
More Plates More Dates pairs the two subjects the brand started on: lifting (weight plates) and dating. Derek has not published a formal definition that we could find, but his blog still files posts under Bodybuilding and Dating categories next to Health, Hair Loss Prevention and PEDs, and its author box says he created More Plates More Dates after more than eight years of “extreme self-improvement” as a one stop shop for readers trying to become the best version of themselves. He has also mentioned, in a November 2020 video, plans to post more of his old dating content.
What did More Plates More Dates study? What did Derek do before YouTube?
More Plates More Dates’ Derek studied business in college and planned to work as an accountant, according to Famous Birthdays, which says he started publishing self-improvement content on his blog in 2016. In his own November 8, 2020 video, he said one of his jobs before going online was working as a bouncer downtown, and that an injury from that job was the event that moved him to working online.
Did More Plates More Dates have a stroke?
No, Derek from More Plates More Dates has said he did not have a stroke. In a November 8, 2020 video, I Had A Stroke? What Happened To The Side Of My Face..., he answered viewers who asked why one side of his face moves differently: he said that while working as a bouncer he was punched twice and knocked out, fractured his cheekbone, and had surgery to put it back in place, and he believes the injury damaged some nerves in that area. He said plainly that there was no stroke. We found no report of a stroke in any accepted outlet.
Did More Plates More Dates get a hair transplant?
No, Derek from More Plates More Dates said he had not had a hair transplant and did not wear a hair system, in a September 19, 2020 video, Have I Had A Hair Transplant Or Do I Wear A Hair System... THE TRUTH. He said longtime viewers had watched his hair go from a bad point to recovered over time on the channel, said he uses hair loss medications, and said he was not against a transplant and might get one later for extra density. He has documented his own hair loss on camera, for example in Minoxidil Has Allowed Me To Finally Usurp My Father (November 12, 2021), and hair loss remains a core subject; his March 2026 upload was on microneedling and minoxidil. We found no later statement from him that he has had a transplant.
Does More Plates More Dates own Gorilla Mind? What about the energy drink and supplements?
Yes, More Plates More Dates’ Derek is behind Gorilla Mind: Famous Birthdays says he launched Gorilla Mind supplements in 2017, and in a November 2020 video he called Gorilla Mode his “turnkey nootropic and pre-workout formulas” that he designs from scratch himself; his blog calls Gorilla Mode Stim “our” formula in its review. A Gorilla Mind release carried by PR Newswire on August 28, 2023 said Gorilla Mind Energy Drinks were launching in nearly 700 Vitamin Shoppe stores, priced at $3.49 a can, and described the company as based in Boise, Idaho, since 2018. Supplement trade site Stack3d reported Gorilla Mind moving into Walmart in August 2024 and, on January 29, 2026, that the energy drink was picked for 7-Eleven test placements. Famous Birthdays also credits him with launching the hormone clinic Marek Health, and the podcast My First Million titled its September 12, 2023 episode with him “His +$100M Business Empire.”
Does More Plates More Dates take steroids? Is Derek natty?
More Plates More Dates’ Derek has said on his own channel that he has run steroid cycles, and he has discussed his TRT use on podcasts. He described his first cycle in What I Used For My First Cycle (June 21, 2019) and told cycle stories in Story Time - My WORST CYCLES EVER (December 6, 2020). His September 12, 2023 My First Million episode covers his use of TRT. On the channel, PEDs are mostly a subject of commentary, including natty-or-not breakdowns of other people’s physiques.
What is More Plates More Dates’ real name? How old is he, and where is he from?
More Plates More Dates goes by Derek on his channel, blog and podcast appearances, and neither he nor an accepted outlet has published a surname that we could find, so we list him as Derek. Famous Birthdays gives a birth year of 1992 and Canada as his birthplace, but no full birth date, so we do not state an exact age.

Who represents More Plates More Dates?
As of October 2026, no outside agency or manager is named publicly for More Plates More Dates: his blog’s contact page takes business inquiries directly, and his YouTube About page lists a business email. Ames Create does not represent him; we cover him because people keep asking what happened to the MPMD guy, and most of the answer is in his own videos. If that changes, this entry will say so.
Our read
Ames Create does not work with More Plates More Dates. This is our view, from a team that works on creator brands for a living.
The format. Long, dense, talk-to-camera breakdowns: a celebrity physique, a study, a supplement label or a hair loss drug, taken apart point by point with the vocabulary of someone who has read the research. The natty-or-not frame turns a public argument into a format people come back for, and his own history with cycles, TRT and hair loss is what gives him standing to make it.
Why it travels. Titles name a famous body and a question, from Christian Bale to Andrew Tate, so his videos ride other people’s fame and search traffic. Three Joe Rogan appearances and podcasts with Peter Attia, Jordan Peterson and Rhonda Patrick carried him well past fitness YouTube, which is why the channel holds about 2.05 million subscribers even while uploads have slowed.
Brand fit. Nobody right now, honestly: he owns the supplement brand (Gorilla Mind) and links his own businesses in every description, so the brands that fit him are mostly his. A clinical-grade health, testing or sleep product that can survive his ingredient-level review is the only outside category that makes sense.
