Comedy · YouTube · Updated Oct 13, 2026
Martin Phillips is a stand-up comedian from Virginia, now based in Austin, Texas, best known as a Kill Tony golden ticket winner. His site says he started in the Washington, DC comedy scene in 2013 and earned the golden ticket after an impromptu bucket pull at his home club there, which lets him skip the bucket and bring a new minute to the show. He made his first Kill Tony panel appearance on episode #734 in August 2025, and since April 2026 the show’s own episode notes have listed him in the cast every week, next to Dedrick Flynn. He tours with Killers of Kill Tony alongside David Lucas and Hans Kim, and co-hosts the podcast Isn’t It Romantic? with comedian Jenny Questell.

Questions people ask
Who is Martin Phillips?
Martin Phillips is a stand-up comedian from Virginia who came up in the Washington, DC scene and now lives in Austin, Texas. On Kill Tony, Tony Hinchcliffe has introduced him as a “legendary golden ticket winner” and, on his first night on the panel, as “Kill Tony royalty” and one of the most used and loved golden ticket winners ever. His site says he was named DC’s funniest student in college, and that off stage he is a tap dancer and blues harmonica player. A February 2025 press release for a Philadelphia show called him a recurring member of the Kill Tony podcast.
What happened to Martin Phillips, the comedian?
His story is a slow climb up the same show. The earliest Kill Tony appearance we could source is #413, one of the show’s first Washington, DC tapings, recorded November 7, 2019, where Tony Hinchcliffe brought him back for a bonus set after a strong spot at an earlier DC show. He told Tony on #674 (recorded July 1, 2024) that he had moved to Austin from Virginia the summer before. He sat on the panel for the first time on #734, recorded August 18, 2025, with Dusty Slay, and since April 2026 the show’s episode notes have put him in the weekly cast. Some searchers may also be thinking of a different person with a near-identical name, covered further down.
Is Martin Phillips still on Kill Tony? Is he a regular?
Yes, he is still on it. As of October 13, 2026, Kill Tony’s own episode notes list him in the cast of every numbered episode from #768 (recorded April 27, 2026) through #789 (recorded October 5, 2026), apart from #770, whose notes carry no cast list. He is also credited on #772, a Dallas road show taped March 28, 2026. The notes do not label anyone as a regular, so we go by his own site, which says he brings a new minute of stand-up to every episode using his golden ticket and then trades jokes with the guests.
How did Martin Phillips get his golden ticket on Kill Tony?
His site says he earned his golden ticket on Kill Tony following an impromptu bucket pull at his home club in DC. It does not give a date, and we could not pin it to a single episode, so we leave the date out. A Kill Tony golden ticket lets a comedian come back and perform without being drawn from the bucket. On #734 the hosts also recalled a show they did with him about ten years earlier at an Italian restaurant in Portsmouth, Virginia, which Tony called a full circle moment.
Where is Martin Phillips from?
Virginia. His site says he originally hails from Virginia’s 757, the Hampton Roads area code, and that he hit the DC comedy scene in 2013, which is why some venue listings, like a February 2026 show in Tysons, describe him as from the DC area. He has lived in Austin, Texas since about the summer of 2023, by his own account on Kill Tony.
Who does Martin Phillips tour with?
Mostly the Killers of Kill Tony, a touring stand-up show built from the podcast’s regulars and fan favorites. Recent bills have paired him with David Lucas, Hans Kim and Timmy No Brakes at the Adler Theatre in Davenport, Iowa on April 3, 2026, and with David Lucas, Hans Kim and Ahren Belisle in Duluth, Minnesota on July 31, 2026. His site also lists solo shows in Austin and around the country.
Is this the Martin Phillipps from The Chills?
No. This entry is about the Kill Tony comedian. Martin Phillipps, spelled with two p’s, was the New Zealand musician who founded The Chills, and Wikipedia’s Martin Phillips page also lists an English footballer and a Welsh darts player with the name. None of them is this comedian.
How old is Martin Phillips? What is his real name?
He has not published a birthdate, so we do not list an age. Martin Phillips is the name he uses on his own site and the name Kill Tony credits him under; no other name has been published by him or by press. Online he also goes by Marty, and his TikTok handle is @flymartyy.
Where can I watch Martin Phillips?
His minutes are on new episodes of Kill Tony on the Kill Tony channel, with #734 as his first panel night. He posts stand-up and Kill Tony clips on YouTube @martinphillipscomedy, Instagram @martinphillipscomedy and TikTok @flymartyy. His podcast with Jenny Questell, Isn’t It Romantic?, debates whether a film counts as a romance, twice a month. Tour dates are on martinphillipscomedy.com.

Martin Phillips does not publish a number and neither do we.

Who represents Martin Phillips?
His site and Linktree list management at Brillstein Entertainment Partners, plus a direct booking email. Ames Create does not represent him; we cover him because he went from a DC bucket pull to Kill Tony’s weekly cast and people want to know how. If that changes, this entry will say so.
Our read
Ames Create does not work with Martin Phillips. This is our view, from a team that works on creator brands for a living.
The format. Sixty seconds of short, tight jokes about ordinary life, then an interview where the panel picks at him. On #674 he opened the show, and Tony called him a consistent, killer way to get the night started. The golden ticket means he does it on a schedule rather than waiting on the bucket, which is how a minute turns into a weekly habit for the audience.
Why it travels. His reach mostly lives inside Kill Tony: the show’s YouTube channel carries his minutes, and his own YouTube and TikTok sit at about 9,000 and 7,000 followers. The Killers of Kill Tony bills are where that turns into ticket sales, in theaters well beyond Austin.
Brand fit. Live comedy is the product: clubs, theaters, ticketing and the podcast sponsors already around Kill Tony. His Linktree already carries offer links for meal kit and wellness brands such as HelloFresh, Factor and Ritual, so he is used to doing reads. The minutes run adult, so family brands are not the match.
