Comedy · YouTube · Updated Oct 6, 2026
William Montgomery is a stand-up comedian from Memphis, Tennessee, now based in Austin, Texas, best known as the longest-serving regular on Kill Tony, the live podcast where he read a new minute of jokes off cards almost every week. The show’s notes first credit him in December 2018 and list him on 366 episodes, including both Madison Square Garden nights in 2024, next to regulars like Hans Kim and Casey Rocket. He also hosts The William Montgomery Show, a weekly podcast with about 84,000 subscribers on YouTube. Since late April 2026 the Kill Tony notes have stopped listing him, and his podcast has not posted since May 7, 2026. He has not said why.

Questions people ask
Who is William Montgomery?
William Montgomery is a Memphis-born stand-up comedian who lives in Austin, Texas. On Kill Tony, host Tony Hinchcliffe has introduced him as “the longest standing regular in the history of the show” and as a Hall of Fame member with the record for all-time appearances, usually under a nickname like the Big Red Machine. His tour bio adds that he features for Tony Hinchcliffe and Duncan Trussell and appears in Showtime’s Comedy Store documentary, and his podcast notes say he and David Lucas used to host two shows together, Brothers in Cursive and Are We Really Brothers. Since November 2021 he has hosted The William Montgomery Show.
What happened to William Montgomery?
Two things, a few months apart. In November 2025 he opened for Morgan Jay at the Still Standing Comedy Festival in Austin and was booed off about 15 minutes into a planned 30-minute set. Chortle reported that jokes about the deaths of Aaliyah and Paul Walker turned the room and that he argued with the crowd and insulted audience members, and it embedded video of the set. The report carried no response from him, and we have not found one on the record. He stayed in Kill Tony’s cast notes for five more months. The second thing is that he then stopped appearing in them, which is the next question.
What happened to William Montgomery on Kill Tony? Why is he not on the show?
He has not said, and neither has the show, in anything we could source. What is public: Kill Tony’s own episode notes credit him on 366 episodes, starting with #316 (recorded December 17, 2018). The last weekly taping that lists him is #767, recorded April 20, 2026; a Dallas road show taped on March 28 came out later, as #772 on June 16. All 19 numbered episodes recorded since, from April 27 through September 21, 2026, leave him out, and the same notes stop listing Hans Kim from the same week. His site still lists Kill Tony every Monday. Whether he left, is on a break or was moved off the show has not been said on the record, so we do not guess.
Is William Montgomery still on Kill Tony? Where is he now?
Not according to the show’s own notes, and neither he nor the show has said whether he left. As of October 6, 2026, Kill Tony’s episode notes leave him out of all 20 numbered episodes recorded since April 27, 2026, the newest being #788, recorded September 28 and released October 5. His podcast feed has not added an episode since Ep. 231 on May 7, 2026, but he is still booked for stand-up: Olsen Run Comedy Club in Eugene, Oregon, lists him for four shows on October 23 and 24, 2026. The question above has the episode-by-episode record.
What happened to William Montgomery and Casey Rocket?
Neither of them has said, in anything we could source. What is public: Casey Rocket was a guest on The William Montgomery Show in July 2022, was sitting in as co-host by the 100th episode in October 2023, and from Ep. 119 (March 7, 2024) every episode in the podcast’s feed was titled “The William Montgomery Show with Casey Rocket.” That ran through Ep. 197 (September 11, 2025). Ep. 198, a week later, dropped the name, and William hosted alone or with guests after that. Casey Rocket’s entry covers his side of that period.
Why is William Montgomery on Kill Tony, and why does he read his jokes from notes?
Because he was a regular. Kill Tony’s premise is that comedians put their names in a bucket and get one minute on stage if they are pulled; regulars are the comedians who write and perform a brand-new minute every week. In episode #536, Tony Hinchcliffe introduced William as the longest standing regular in the history of the show, “with yet another brand new minute.” As for the notes, he has not explained them on the record that we found. His own site calls it his “card-reading energy,” and the cards are part of the act either way. We also could not source an explanation for where he appears in the running order, opening or closing, so we leave that alone.
Why does William Montgomery owe Theo Von?
We could not find a sourced account of a debt, so we will not repeat one. What is public: Theo Von has guested on Kill Tony episodes with William in the cast, including #569 (August 2022), #615 (June 2023) and #764 with Jelly Roll (recorded March 30, 2026), per the show’s episode notes. If the question comes from something said on one of those nights, we have not verified it.
How old is William Montgomery? What is his real name?
He has not published a birthdate, so we do not print an age. William Montgomery is his real name: his own site uses William F. Montgomery. The Big Red Machine, the Vanilla Gorilla and the Memphis Strangler are nicknames from the show.
Is this the William Montgomery from Turning Point USA, or William Montgomery McGovern?
No. This entry is about the comedian from Kill Tony. Bill Montgomery, who co-founded Turning Point USA in 2012 and died in 2020, is a different person, and so is William Montgomery McGovern, the explorer and Northwestern University professor who died in 1964.
Where can I watch William Montgomery?
His podcast is on YouTube at The William Montgomery Show and on Apple Podcasts, 231 numbered episodes through May 2026. His Kill Tony minutes are in the archive on the Kill Tony channel, from episode 316 to 772. He is on Instagram as @william.f.montgomery1 and on Cameo, and his site is williamfmontgomery.com.
What is William Montgomery’s net worth?
William Montgomery does not publish a number and neither do we.
What about William Montgomery’s family, or who he is dating?
Not something we cover.
Who represents William Montgomery?
His site lists a contact email for bookings and press, and his YouTube channel lists a show email; no agency or manager is named on either. Ames Create does not represent him; we cover him because he held the same one-minute slot on Kill Tony for more than seven years and people keep asking where he went. If that changes, this entry will say so.
Our read
Ames Create does not work with William Montgomery. This is our view, from a team that works on creator brands for a living.
The format. One new minute a week, read off cards at full volume, then an interview where the host picks at whatever he just said. The jokes are built to wobble: a setup that sounds sensible, a punchline that is not, and a delivery that dares the room to disagree. Doing it every Monday for seven years is what turned a bit into a fixture.
Why it travels. A Kill Tony minute plus the interview after it is a finished clip, and the show’s channel has about 2.8 million subscribers to carry it. His own podcast runs at about 84,000, so most of his reach lived inside someone else’s show. The November 2025 festival set is the other side of that: the act works best on a crowd that already knows the character.
Brand fit. Nobody right now. The show’s notes stopped listing him in April 2026, his podcast has been quiet since May, and the most covered moment of his past year is a set that ended in boos. His podcast has carried sponsor reads from BetterHelp and HelloFresh, so the door is not closed, but a brand should wait until he says what comes next.
