Ari Shaffir is a stand-up comedian and podcaster who created This Is Not Happening, the live storytelling show that ran on Comedy Central from January 2015, and who hosts the travel podcast You Be Trippin’ for Tom Segura’s YMH Studios. In April 2026 he closed that storytelling format for good with The End, a seven-episode series he sold directly to fans, per Deadline. That spring he was a co-host of Legion of Skanks until episode 943 on June 19, 2026, which the show’s feed describes as his farewell before a move to London, England. His YouTube channel, @arishaffir, has about 251,000 subscribers.

Questions people ask
Who is Ari Shaffir? Why is he famous?
Ari Shaffir is a stand-up comedian known best for storytelling. He started Ari Shaffir’s Storytelling Show in February 2010, and it grew into This Is Not Happening on Comedy Central, per Deadline. Deadline also credits his self-released special Jew, which passed eight million views on YouTube before Netflix sought it out, the Netflix specials Double Negative and America’s Sweetheart, the Comedy Central special Paid Regular, and co-founding the podcast Protect Our Parks with Shane Gillis, Mark Normand and Joe Rogan. He now hosts You Be Trippin’ on YMH Studios.
What happened to Ari Shaffir? What is he doing now?
As of October 2026, three things happened this year. He came back in late March 2026 from seven months off the grid in South America, per Deadline. On April 16 he released The End, the last chapter of his storytelling show. And in June he left Legion of Skanks ahead of a move to London. His travel podcast keeps going: You Be Trippin’ posted a new episode, with Ryan O’Neill on the road to Machu Picchu, on October 20, 2026.
Why did Ari Shaffir leave Legion of Skanks? Why is he moving to London?
He left because he was moving to England. The show’s feed lists him as a co-host beside Big Jay Oakerson and Luis J. Gomez on episodes 941 to 943, and describes episode 943, released June 19, 2026 with Shane Gillis and Sal Vulcano, as a celebration of his time as a co-host “before his big move to London, England.” Earlier that year Dave Smith had announced his own exit and said goodbye in March. Shaffir has not explained why London in any interview we could source in print. What is on the record: he has a habit of disappearing abroad for long stretches, per Deadline in April 2026, and when he moved from Los Angeles to New York in April 2013 he told The Comic’s Comic he had given London “some serious thought.”
What happened to This Is Not Happening? Why did Ari Shaffir leave it?
He created it and hosted it until 2017. The show premiered on Comedy Central in January 2015, per The Comic’s Comic. In June 2017 The Interrobang reported that Roy Wood Jr. would host the next season instead. Deadline reported in April 2026 that he exited after deciding to sell a special to Netflix, a Comedy Central competitor, and that he has long said he was pushed out of a format he created. He kept the format going on his own as Ari Shaffir’s Renamed Storytelling Show, then ended it with The End, seven episodes produced with YMH Studios and released April 16, 2026, featuring Shane Gillis, Nate Bargatze, Tony Hinchcliffe, Chris Distefano, Dan Soder and others, per Deadline. Deadline reported it had already made back its budget by late April.
Why is Ari Shaffir doing a farewell tour?
His current stand-up run is called The Farewell Tour: he announced the presale in a post on his YouTube channel dated about two years before October 2026, and the channel still reads “The Farewell Tour” ON SALE NOW as of October 2026. Our Culture listed a farewell tour date at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races in July 2025. We found no statement from him explaining the name. What is public: in 2026 he also ended his storytelling show and announced a move to London, covered above.
What did Ari Shaffir say about Kobe Bryant? Was he cancelled?
After Kobe Bryant died in January 2020, Shaffir posted a video and posts joking about his death. Chortle reported on January 30, 2020 that clubs where he was booked were targeted, that New York Comedy Club cancelled his show and said it would not work with him again after receiving threatening calls, and that he did not apologise. Pollstar reported on February 5, 2020 that Avalon Management confirmed he was no longer a client and that CAA said he was not a client. His stated response, per both: he posts harsh jokes whenever a famous person dies, it was “just a joke,” and he does not really hate the people he targets. Since then Netflix released his special America’s Sweetheart in 2025, and Deadline reported in March 2026 that he is represented by CAA.
What happened to Ari Shaffir’s head? Why is it half shaved?
He has not explained it in anything we could source, and we found no press report about it, so we do not guess.
How old is Ari Shaffir? What is his real name? Where is he from?
He is 52, born February 12, 1974, per Famous Birthdays. He performs under his own name, Ari Shaffir, and no other name has been published. Famous Birthdays says he was born in New York, grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina until third grade and then in Silver Spring, Maryland, and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1999. He worked out of Los Angeles until moving to New York in April 2013, per The Comic’s Comic.
Where can I watch Ari Shaffir? Does he have a new show?
His newest show is The End, seven episodes of long-form stories from other comics, streaming on YMH Studios since April 16, 2026. His latest special, America’s Sweetheart, is on Netflix, as is Double Negative. Stand-up clips and the special Jew are on YouTube @arishaffir, and his travel podcast is on YouTube @youbetrippinpod. Tour dates are on arishaffir.com.
What is Ari Shaffir’s net worth?
He does not publish a number and neither do we.
Does Ari Shaffir have a wife or girlfriend? What about his private life?
Not something we cover.
Who represents Ari Shaffir?
Deadline reported in March 2026 that he is represented by CAA and Garrett Legal, and his contact page lists a publicist at 2pm Sharp. Ames Create does not represent him; we cover him because people keep asking why he left Legion of Skanks and what came after This Is Not Happening, and both answers are on the record. If that changes, this entry will say so.
Our read
Ames Create does not work with Ari Shaffir. This is our view, from a team that works on creator brands for a living.
The format. Long stories told live. This Is Not Happening and The End hand a comic a long stretch for one true story, which is a different muscle from a tight five, and his own sets and You Be Trippin’ run on the same engine: a trip, a mistake, a long way back.
Why it travels. A finished story is a clip with a beginning, a middle and an end, so the storytelling shows spread one comic at a time, and the guests bring their own audiences. Selling The End directly to fans for $25, in his words to Deadline, and earning back the budget inside two weeks, showed the audience will pay without a network in the middle.
Brand fit. Travel is the cleanest door: luggage, travel insurance, booking apps and outdoor gear fit a podcast built on going somewhere hard to reach. His stand-up has cost him bookings before, and the 2020 Kobe Bryant fallout is still searched, so mainstream consumer brands are a hard fit right now. A brand that wants him should buy the trip, not the jokes.
